Genuflecting is in the news—football players, mainly black ones, “taking a knee” during pre-game playing of the National Anthem. The most recent example, from this Sunday: teams kneeling before the anthem, and being booed anyway–NFL fans booed players for kneeling before national anthem and standing for it | NFL players tried to show support for the cause while not disrespecting the flag, but fans booed anyway, by Taylor Link, Salon.com, October 1, 2017. ] What’s up with that?
I can only give a personal take on this—not, I’m aware, a thoroughly American take.
I am an American, a citizen for fifteen years now, and very glad to be one; but I grew up elsewhere, in a monoracial country—England had few blacks, in just a few areas, until I was well into my teens. I came here as an adult, 28 years old. So I don’t see the American racial scene the way born Americans see it and grow up with it.
To an outsider like me, one very striking thing about that scene was the deep, hungry yearning among most white Americans to think well of blacks.
After the Civil Rights reforms of the sixties, there was a widespread sentiment that with the injustices of the past set aside, we ought to be able to get to a place where we would be all citizens together, equal under the law and regarding each other in a spirit of equality. It might take a few years (people felt) and need some temporary remedies—Affirmative Action, contract set-asides, and so on—but we should get there, and be a united, reasonably harmonious nation by, oh, the year 2000, for sure.

John Derbyshire’s Modest Proposal: Invite Russian Ambassador To Cabinet Meetings—Drive Opposition Party Mad(der)!
President Trump on Tuesday gave a one-hour speech to a joint session of Congress. There was some cucking, about Black History Month, a licensed occasion for the ramping-up of anti-white rhetoric—if your gonads were as dimensionally impressive as we were led to believe, Mr. President, you would have issued an Executive Order renaming February as “Hate Whitey Month“—and condemning “hate and evil in all of its very ugly forms,” with special reference to the recent vandalizing of Jewish cemeteries. (Fiddlesticks to that. Saying “hate and evil in all of its very ugly forms” is just conceding rhetorical ground to the enemy. Spokes-critters at the Southern Poverty Law Center and other Goodwhite propaganda outlets have made the word “hate” toxic by using it indiscriminately to refer to any position contradicting CultMarx dogma. Most “hate crimes” turn out to be hoaxes—as has proved to be the case here).
But there was some good stuff on the National Question. Most resounding quote:
Free nations are the best vehicle for expressing the will of the people, and America respects the right of all nations to chart their own path. My job is not to represent the world. My job is to represent the United States of America.
In 1939, Orwell wrote “we have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men.” It is once again, and we should thank the President for thus showing us his intelligence.
Just those three frank sentences reminded me why I voted for this guy, and shall vote for him again.

John Derbyshire Says: GOP Pigs (Including Bush Dynasty And Paul Ryan) Vote For Clinton. But Not Me.
I guess The Donald should be glad at least that his enemies can’t play the Hitler card. Hitler seems to have been well-nigh sexless—definitely not a ladies’ man. Eva Braun once grumbled that he had never treated her like a woman. Nobody’s quite sure what she meant, and whatever it was died with her in the bunker. But it’s not a thing you can imagine a woman saying about Trump.
Oh, wait—his enemies are playing the Hitler card.[Springtime for Donald | Let’s just say it: Trump sounds more and more like Hitler, By William Saletan [Email him] , Slate, October 14, 2016]
The tape that triggered the most recent fuss was of Donald Trump talking to Billy Bush back in 2005 (!) when both were involved with a TV celebrities show. It was bro talk, guy to guy, and not sensationally dirty. By the standards of our public culture—dialog in movies and novels, what you hear at a poetry slam or a rap concert, what you see at a Superbowl half-time show—it barely moved the needle on the filth dial. So what was all the fuss about?
Answer: the fuss is about Trump’s political enemies figuring to peel a few ten thousands more female votes away from him–and the Main Stream Media of course enthusiastically pumping air into the thing to help them.
So the cry rang out around the nation: “Trump disrespects women!”
Does he? He clearly likes to try seducing beautiful women, including married ones. When rebuffed, however, as he tells us on the offending tape, he lets it go, as a gentleman should.
